Romania promotes project that missed deadline

09 May 2016

Romania’s Communication Ministry attributed, on Thursday, an advertisement contract of EUR 500,000, without VAT, for the promotion of the RO-NET national broadband internet network in villages.

The joint venture of local companies Anastic Construct and United Engineering Team won the advertisement contract.

The RO-NET project, which aims to connect 750 localities in Romania to broadband internet, should have been completed in December 2015.

The project is implemented by Telekom Romania, which won the bid in 2014. Its cost is some EUR 84 million, EUR 56 million of which should be covered with EU funds.

In January, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said that the project has shown some failures along the way, but the 750 villages that are included in the program would have access to Internet by the end of the year.
