Romania ranks fifth in top of spam source countries – Panda Security report

Romania climbed to the fifth position in the third quarter of 2010 in a spam sending country top, from the eighth position in the previous quarter, IT security solution provider Panda Security said in a report.  According to the report, in the third quarter of 2010, the first ten worst spammers sent 55 percent of the total unwanted messages.

Three East European countries rank among the first five spam sending nations. The United Kingdom was not included among the first ten spam sending countries. About 95 percent  of total email messages are considered to be spam. Many of them are sent by botnets, systems controlled by hackers. India is the top spamming country, being responsible for 11 percent of spam, followed by Brazil and Russia, with more than 8 percent each.
