Romania ranks last in the EU for research expenses to GDP
Romania ranked last in the European Union for the share the research and development expenditures in the GDP, which was only 0.38% in 2014.
Values below 1% were also recorded in Greece, Bulgaria and Poland, according to EU’s statistics office Eurostat.
In Finland, the share of the research and development costs in the GDP reached 3.17% last year. It was followed by Sweden (3.16%), and Denmark (3.08%). Austria allocated 2.99% of its GDP for research and development, Germany granted 2.84%, whereas Belgium gave 2.46%.
Romania ranked last followed by Cyprus (0.47%), Latvia (0.68%), and Croatia (0.79%).
