Romania ranks second in EU on October retail trade growth

Romania had the second largest monthly retail trade growth in the European Union (EU) in October, with an increase of 2 percent month-on- month, according to Eurostat. Malta reported the highest month-on-month increase- up 3.7 percent- followed by Romania and Poland- with a 1.4 percent increase. The highest decrease was recorded in Portugal, where the retail trade total fell by 3.3 percent. Latvia and Denmark also performed poorly with 2.9 and 2 percent falls respectively.

Compared to October 2010, Romania’s total retail trade grew by 2.8 percent. Here Lithuania reported the biggest gains, up 9.5 percent in October 2011 compared to the same month in 2010, followed by Luxembourg, up 8.9 percent, and Latvia with an increase of 4.9 percent.
