Romania ranks second to last in EU on purchasing power standards in 2010

Romania ranked second to last in the European Union on the GDP per capita expressed in purchasing power standards in 2010, with 46 percent of the EU average, compared to 47 percent both in 2009 and 2008, according to Eurostat. Bulgaria ranked last in EU with 44 percent of the EU average in 2010.

Only 12 countries had in 2010 a GDP per capita expressed in purchasing power standards higher than the average in the EU27. The GDP per capita in Luxembourg expressed in purchasing power standards  was more than two and a half times the EU27 average, while the Netherlands recorded a level one third above the average. Italy, Spain and Cyprus were around the average, according to Eurostat.
