Romania reacts to Russia – Ukraine developments in Kerch strait

26 November 2018

Aggression and violation of international law undermine the security of the whole region, Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a Twitter post following the developments between Russia and Ukraine in the Kerch strait. The strait links the Black Sea to the Azov Sea.

The ministry said Romania “fully supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and its rights to use its territorial waters.”

On November 25, Russia stopped three Ukrainian navy vessels from entering the Sea of Azov via the Kerch Strait. A Russian cargo ship blocked the access of the Ukrainian vessels. Later, Russian forces opened fire at and seized the Ukrainian vessels. Ukraine said six crew members were injured.
