The volume of retail trade grew by 12.6% in Romania in October compared to the same month last year, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

Romania recorded the highest retail growth in the EU in October for the third month in a row.

The retail trade grew rose by 0.4% in the eurozone and by 0.9% in the European Union in October compared to the same month last year. The largest increases were reported in Romania (12.6%), Poland (7.1%), Ireland, Hungary and Malta (6.3%).

The retail growth began to slow down in Romania in October, after an annual growth pace of 15.5% in August and 14.3% in September.

Romania also ranked first in the EU in October for the monthly retail growth, with an advance of 1%. By comparison, the retail trade dropped by 1.1% in the EU and by 0.5% in the eurozone compared to the previous month.
