Romania sees highest growth in retail sales in EU in April
Romania recorded in April the highest growth in retail sales in the European Union when compared to the same month of 2017, according to the European statistical office Eurostat.
Retail sales increased by 7.4% in Romania in April, compared to an average growth rate on 1.7% in the EU, according to Eurostat data. Poland had the second-highest growth, of 6.6%.
The retail trade turnover increased in Romania by 6.7% in April and by 6.5% in the first four months, when compared to the similar periods of 2017, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). Fuel sales saw the highest year-on-year growth rate in April, namely 11.2%, followed by non-food products (+8.1%).
In the first four months, retail sales were influenced more by food and non-food items, each with a 7.6% growth in sales.
