Romania seeks external financing from the US market

18 January 2012

Romania will get external financing from the US market due to the pressures from the new capital requirements European banks are facing, Bogdan Dragoi (in picture), state secretary in Romania’s Ministry of Finance, has recently said.

“On the US market, where there is also a greater liquidity, mutual funds, pension funds and a number of investors have shown interest in Central and Eastern Europe. Thus, the most likely choice would be to break out onto the US market,” said Bogdan Dragoi, quoted by Mediafax newswire.

The Romanian official had several meetings with investors in Vienna on Tuesday ( January 17 ), where he presented the reforms undertaken by Romania in recent years, the measures that are still in progress and the macroeconomic indicators in 2011.

According to the Ministry of Finance’s strategy, around EUR 2.5 million in external market loans will be raised in 2012.
