Romania sees second largest advance in retail trade in EU
Luxembourg and Romania registered the most significant advance in retail sales in the European Union in August in comparison to the same period last year.
Romania saw a 11.7% annual increase in its retail sales, slightly exceeded by Luxembourg, which recorded a yearly growth of 12.6%, according to the EU’s statistical office.
At EU level, the retail trade grew by 2.1% year-on-year. In the Eurozone the advance was even lower, amounting to only 0.6%.
The retail trade in the European Union was influenced by the 2.9% increase in the sales of food, beverages and cigarettes whereas the sales of fuel increased by 1%.
In August, the only drops in the retail trade were recorded by France (-1.5%) and Denmark (-0.8%).
