Romania sells greenhouse gas certificates worth EUR 97 mln
Romania sold last year certificates for greenhouse gas emissions worth EUR 97 million, according to the Finance Minister.
The amount was EUR 20 million below the 2013 level, reports local Economica.net.
By law, 70% of the revenues go to the Transport Ministry and the rest, to the Environment Ministry. These percentages are, however, variable.
Last year the Government allocated EUR 40 million to the Public Administration and National Development Ministry and the Bucuresti and Ploiesti City Halls, through an emergency ordinance.
The greenhouse gas emissions certificates give companies the right to pollute for five years, and are granted in countries that have signed the Kyoto protocol. Romania received 268 million such certificates for 2013-2014, from which 400 companies benefit.
