Romania starts works on gas pipe connection to Bulgaria

Romanian state-owned natural gas transporter Transgaz has started works on the gas pipeline which will connect Romania to Bulgaria, according to Romanian media. The Giurgiu – Ruse gas pipe connection would be the second one, after the Arad-Szeged gas pipe, which connects Romania to neighbor Hungary. The pipe should be ready by the end of next year and the cost of works is covered with EU funding.

The Romania – Bulgaria gas pipe will be 26 km long, 7.2 km of which on Romania's territory. 4.14 km will be under the Danube. The value of the project stays at EUR 24 million. Romania's Transgaz will pay EUR 10 million and Bulgartransgaz, the rest. The EU has allotted EUR 8.9 million to co-finance this project.
