Romania tightens border controls
The Romanian Border Police announced in a statement that the people and cars crossing Romania’s border will be thoroughly checked in this period, in accordance with national and international legislation.
“The measure is temporary and aims to prevent people coming from states in conflict areas, who could carry out activities that represent a real threat to internal and external security, from transiting the border,” reads the Romanian Border Police’s statement.
As this measure might lead to delays in crossing the border, the Romanian authorities are taking “all the necessary measures to reduce the waiting time and to conduct an operational and civilized control.” To avoid congestion, the Border Police recommends drivers to use all border checkpoints.
The Bulgarian Interior Ministry warned on Friday that those who wanted to cross the border to Romania should expect delays after Bucharest ordered tightened border controls, reports The Sofia Globe.
