Romania to build 285 parks countrywide with EUR 50 million
As many as 285 public parks will be built in Romania nationwide, as the Government has approved the allocation of more than EUR 50 million euros off the Environment Fund to this end, according to Borbely Laszlo, the Minister of the Environment and Forestry.
Over the past three years, 263 green area investment projects have been carried through and there are 102 projects currently being scrutinized. So far, EUR 1 billion off the Environment Fund was used for green projects in Romania, according to the minister.
Under European directives and the Romanian legislation, Romania should achieve a target of 26 square metres of green areas for each inhabitant. Official data indicate that the current per capita green area distribution in Romania is 9 square metres in rural areas and 5 square metres in urban areas.
