Romania to send up to 26 athletes to Sochi for 2014 Winter Olympics

18 December 2013

Romania currently has only one athlete qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, but the country’s delegation will include up to 26 athletes, according to Ioan Dobrescu, secretary general of the Romanian Olympic Committee.

“We have figure skating, where we have only one athlete, Zoltan Kelemen, and we’ll also have bobsleigh, skeleton, cross-country skiing and biathlon. That’s all we have. Unfortunately, because of the qualification system, we’ll know the final results in January, after final competitions. But there are between 22 and 26 athletes in qualifying positions,” said Dobrescu, quoted by local news agency Mediafax.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will take place in Sochi, Russia, between February 6 and February 23, 2014.
