Romania to spend over EUR 30 mln on organizing elections for European Parliament this year
Romania will spend about EUR 34 million to organize the elections for the European Parliament this year, a 50 percent bigger budget than the last EP elections in 2009. Funding for this year's elections has already been approved by the Government.
In 2007, when Romania organized elections to pick its 35 members in the European Parliament for the first time after joining the EU, the cost was half compared to the budget this year. In 2009, 33 MEPs from Romania joined the European group.
The country will organize the elections for the European Parliament on May 25 this year. All in all, 751 MEPs from all member states will be elected, and Romania will send 32 representatives to Brussels this year. More about the upcoming elections in this comment piece here.
