Romania, up three places in tourism top, but still at the bottom of EU ranking

Romania went up three places from last year in a tourism competitiveness top released by the World Economic Forum. Romania ranks 63rd out of 139 countries listed in the world, but ranks last in the European Union.

The leaders in terms of tourism are Switzerland, Germany and France, followed by Austria, Sweden, UK, US, Canada, Spain and Singapore. Neighbour Hungary ranks 38th, while Bulgaria, 48th, followed by Poland, Slovakia and Lithuania.

Romania outranked countries like Albania, Georgia, Serbia, Ukraine, Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Republic of Moldova. Romania also ranks 51st in terms of regulations in the tourism area, while when it comes to the business environment and the infrastructure, it ranks 66th. It occupies the same position when it comes to the human resources, natural resources and the cultural heritage.
