Romania, US take part in military exercise in the Black Sea this week
Romania and the United States will hold a joint anti-submarine exercise in the Black Sea this week. The US Navy’s P-3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft arrived in Constanta on October 11, to take part in the drills scheduled for October 13 and October 14.
“Constantly improving and exercising our anti-submarine warfare capabilities with NATO allies such as Romania is a priority for our fleet and the Alliance,” said Capt. Bryan Durkee, Commander of Task Force (CTF) 67, cited in a statement of the US Naval Forces Europe-Africa/ US 6th Fleet.
“Exchanges like this raise the professional knowledge of all involved and provide an opportunity to share tactical and practical innovation and normalize interoperability,” he added.
The P-3C Orion routinely exercises with partners and allies in the Black Sea region. In July, a P-3C Orion participated in the Romania-led anti-submarine warfare exercise Sea Shield.
According to a statement of the Romanian Navy, Romanian troops, together with troops from the Bulgarian, American, and Ukrainian navy, will conduct exercises in the Black Sea between October 12 and October 15. Regina Maria frigate will take part in the exercises and will have a Puma helicopter and a group of special operation forces on board. The Romanian Air Force also participate with two MiG 21 LanceR aircrafts.
