Romania uses more electricity in January
Romania’s electricity end consumption went up by 8.6% in January compared to the same month of last year, to 4.8 TWh, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The local companies used 11.1% more electricity, 3.6 TWh, and the household consumption also went up by 2.9%, to 1.16 TWh. The electricity consumption for public lighting, however, went down by almost 10%, to 67 GWh. The technological consumption in the grid was also lower by 3.9% (770 GWh) and the electricity exports declined by 11.7%, to 875 GWh.
Thus, the total consumption reached 6.47 TWh, up by 3.8% year-on-year. The local electricity production went up by 5.5%, to 6.24 TWh.
The wind electricity production surged by over 60%, to 772 GWh, and the solar power output was 31% higher, at 70 GWh. The hydro power production, however, was almost 30% lower, at 1.16 TWh. The thermal power output increased by 19%, to 3.21 TWh, and the nuclear power production was slightly lower than last year, at 1.03 TWh.
Romania also imported 226 GWh of electricity, 28% less than in January 2015.
