Romania welcomes 6.5 mln foreigners in ten months, more Romanians leave their country

More foreign visitors came to Romania during the first ten months of this year, compared to the same period of 2010. Romania's Statistics Institute announced that 6.55 million foreigners entered the country during this period, 1.8 percent up on the same period of last year. Most of the visitors – some 94 percent – came from other European countries. EU countries accounted for 57.4 percent of foreign visitors to Romania. Of these, Hungary had the largest share, with 34.7 percent, followed by Bulgaria – 17.8 percent, Germany – 8.9 percent, Italy – 8 percent and Poland – 6 percent.

The number of Romanians who went abroad also went up year-on-year during this period: 9.4 million Romanians left the country, a 1 percent year-on-year growth.
