Romania wipes off debts for 15 companies in defense industry amidst current geopolitical context
The Romanian Government has decided to cancel fiscal debt for 15 companies in the defense industry, which either produce or sell weapons, ammunition and any other war products, citing the current geopolitical context which requires strengthening Romania’s defense capacities, according to Mediafax.
The debt wipe off came via an emergency ordinance from the Government after its meeting yesterday. The document shows these companies do not have financing sources to pay their dues to the state, and that the decision would help them avoid bankruptcy, at such an important time in terms of national security.
The companies whose debt was canceled are Tohan Zarnesti, Carfil Brasov, Metrom Brasov, Uzina Mecanica Cugir, Fabrica de Arme Cugir, Uzina Mecanica Plopeni, Uzina Mecanica Sadu, Uzina Mecanica Mija, Uzina Automecanica Moreni, Arsenal Resita, Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti, Electromecanica Ploiesti, Uzina de Produse Speciale Dragomiresti, Pirochim Victoria, Fabrica de Pulberi Fagaras.
The dues that were canceled include taxes, social contributions, and debts to the risk fund for external loans guaranteed by the state.
