Romania women’s epee team won the gold at the European Fencing Championships in Montreux, on Tuesday, June 9. It defeated Estonia 45-35, thus claiming its sixth European title.

Romanians Ana Maria Brânză, Simona Pop, Simona Gherman and Loredana Dinu, managed to keep the gold medal won in 2014 after beating Russia at Strasbourg. The Romanian team also took its revenge against Estonia, which won the gold medal in 2013, in Zagreb, after defeating Romania.

This year, on their way to the gold medal, Romania’s team managed to defeat Ukraine in the quarterfinals (31-25) and then Sweden in the semi-finals (45-41).

Previously, Romania won gold in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2014. It also won silver in 2012 and 2013.
