Romanian air traffic controllers could go on strike this Friday

09 May 2017

Romania's Air Traffic Services Administration – ROMATSA announced yesterday that it had received a notice from the Romanian Air Traffic Services Union (ATSR) on the possible organization of a warning strike on Friday between 11.00 and 13.00.

ATSR leader Gabriel Tudorache told News.ro that the strike will take place due to the failure to conclude a new collective labor agreement (CCM), although the negotiations have started in February 2016.

ROMATSA management said that air traffic safety will not be affected. They will try to stop the warning strike and continue to negotiate with the union. However, if the warning strike starts, ROMATSA will still monitor about a third of the flights. Medical, search and rescue, and humanitarian flights will not be affected.

ROMATSA has the status of an autonomous institution, which is self-financed and is of national importance. It owns the monopoly of air traffic services. ROMATSA’s employees are among the best-paid in Romania.
