Another Romanian alpinist reaches Himalaya’s Manaslu Peak
Romanian climber Vasile Cipcigan reached the Manaslu peak on Saturday. Located in the Himalayas, Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world, at 8,156 meters.
Journalist Titus Craciun also accompanied Cipcigan in this expedition, but stopped at 6,400 meters, according to the information posted on the Facebook page created for this journey.
Vasile Cipcigan works at the Public Rescue Service in Cluj, reports local Agerpres. Before the expedition, he said that the final ascent would take between 8 and 12 hours, and the descent about four hours.
Cipcigan is the initiator of the Seven steps on the roof of the world project, which so far ended with four successful challenges: Elbrus (Europe) – 5,642 meters, McKinley (USA) – 6,194 meters, Aconcagua (South America) – 6,960 meters, and Kilimanjaro (Africa) - 5,895 meters.
He also participated in the Khan Tengri expedition in 2008, and the Romanian Expedition Manaslu 2013 project.
Another Romanian managed to reach this peak earlier this year. On May 10, alpinist Horia Colibasanu got the chance to see the world from up there for the second time, after a 13-hour final ascent against high winds.
