Romanian Anti-Corruption prosecutors send former Finance Minister to court
Romanian Anti-Corruption prosecutors sent to court former Finance Minister Darius Valcov, who is now under custody.
They charged him with influence peddling, money laundering and financial deeds incompatible with his positions, reports local Mediafax. The National Anticorruption Directorate sent Valcov’s file to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
Prosecutors also indicted in the same file former Mayor of Slatina Minel Florin Prina. They charge him with complicity in influence peddling and money laundering.
According to prosecutors, in 2009, a company representative asked Valcov, then Mayor of Slatina, to help him win a public contract. In exchange for his intervention, he promised Valcov 20% of the money received via the public contract.
Valcov resigned as Finance Minister on March 15, just days after DNA started a probe on him.
