Romanian authorities open donation centers for snow - bound people

Romania was under Orange and Yellow codes of snow, blizzards and ice over the last two weeks. National roads and highways were closed, villages remained isolated and people were blocked in their houses without food, water or medicine.

The Romanian Army organized several donation centers across the country for people snowed in, where everybody can make donations. The Bucharest City Hall organized nine donation centers in the capital city, opened non-stop: at the General Directorate of Social Assistance Bucharest, Sf. Ioan complex for integrated social services for adults, Regina Maria social clinic, Grivita, Dacia, Ferentari, Bucur, and Sf. Constantin social canteens, and at the Bucharest City Hall. (These are the addresses: 56-58 Foisorului St., 64 Sf Ioan St., Regina Maria clinic on 81-88  Dristor St., 216 Calea Grivitei 196 Dacia Blvd., 91 Calea Ferentari, 44 Agricultori St, 8 Sf. Constantin St.,  291-293 Splaiul Independentei).

The Red Cross also launched a campaign for helping those snow-bound. People who want to contribute can donate basic food - such as corn, flour, sugar, rice, pasta, canned meat, canned fish, water, through Red Cross’ Food Bank located in all Carrefour, Real, Mega Image and Metro stores.

The National Meteorological Administration in Romania issued Code Orange and Code Yellow for abundant snowfalls between February 12, 18:00 and February 14 in counties in the southern region of the country.

According to the warning, between February 12 and February 13, Caras Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj, Olt, Valcea counties will be affected by snow and blizzard. The situation will extend to Arges, Dambovita, Virginia, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Prahova, Calarasi,Ialomita, Buzau, Braila, Vrancea, Galati, Tulcea, Constanta counties between February 13 and 14.
