Romanian banks open 5,200 enforcement proceedings, finalize only 316
Romanian commercial banks have opened 5,230 enforcement proceedings since 2008, but have capitalized only 316 foreclosed properties so far, according to Romania’s National Bank deputy governor Liviu Voinea.
The announcement was made during the debate that took place in the Senate’s Budget Committee yesterday on amending the new law on mortgage loans, reports local Profit.ro.
The Social Democrat Party (PSD) president Liviu Dragnea said on Monday that he had been “manipulated” when he voted for the law that allows the mortgage debtors to get rid of their debts to banks by giving the mortgaged assets to the banks. He said that the social-democrat MPs would support the amendments to the law.
The senators have to debate the amendments until the end of February. Afterwards the Chamber of Deputies will discuss the law.
