Romanian billionaire’s Rolls-Royce gets two awards at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
A Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Sedanca de Ville by Hooper classic car owned by Romanian billionaire Ion Tiriac got two awards at the 65th edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California, which ended on Sunday, August 16.
The automobile, which is part of the Tiriac Collection, won the Lucius Beebe Trophy and First in Class in the Rolls-Royce and Bentley Postwar category.
This Rolls-Royce model was produced between 1948 and 1956 in a limited edition of only 18 cars. It was so exclusivist that only heads of state and royal families could afford to buy it. The car is part of Ion Tiriac’s classic car collection, the biggest personal collection in Romania, which includes over 150 models.
The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, which was launched in 1950, is considered one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world. Once every year, in August, about 200 of the most prestigious collector cars and motorcycles are going into a parade at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Former tennis player Ion Tiriac is one of Romania's richest, with a net worth over USD 1 billion, according to Forbes real-time estimations (as of August 17, 2015). Tiriac was accompanied at the car show by Romanian gymnastics champion Nadia Comaneci, one of the most famous Romanian athletes of all times, who currently lives in the US.
