Romanian businessman, convicted for bribing a judge to get out of previous prison sentence

Romanian businessman Dinel Staicu was convicted to five years in prison, no parole, by Romania’s Supreme Court, for bribing a judge of the Bucharest Appeal Court to cancel a 7-year prison conviction from another case. The decision is final, according to Hotnews.ro.

The judge who had taken the bribe from Staicu, Veronica Cirstoiu, is being trialed in a separate case. Cirstoiu received EUR 630,000 from Dinel Staicu, in February 2012, to cancel a 7-year prison sentence for defrauding the International Bank of Religions (BIR) in the ‘90s.
