10 February 2015

The Bucharest Court sentenced Romanian businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu to six years and four months in prison, no parole, for money laundering.

The judges convicted him in the case of the “National Investment Fund” (FNI) fraud, reports local Mediafax.

Vantu already served two years in jail for aiding fugitive Nicolae Popa, who had been convicted in the same case. The authorities released Vantu on parole last year.

The court also decided to seize USD 7.2 million (EUR 6.35 million) of Vantu's money, which he got through money laundering.

The decision is not final.
