Romanian businessman’s life hangs by a thread after alleged suicide attempt
Romanian businessman Vasile Turcu, a former shareholder of the Dinamo Bucharest football club, was taken to the Floreasca emergency hospital in Bucharest in critical condition after a cardiopulmonary arrest, on Wednesday.
The doctors on the ambulance managed to resuscitate him and he was taken to intensive care, but his situation was critical, according to local Mediafax. He was intubated and had a hematoma on his brain.
Vasile Turcu allegedly tried to hang himself, medical sources have told Mediafax.
Turcu, 63, owns the Romconstruct group, which includes several companies active in the construction sector. In 2010, he was among the richest 100 Romanians, with a net worth of some EUR 130 million.
His companies were severely hit by the crisis and had severe financial problems. The businessman allegedly had to mortgage some of his properties, including a luxury restaurant and his house, to get a loan for his businesses, according to local tabloid Libertatea.
