Romanian Catalin Porumboiu included in short movie section jury for Cannes Film Festival

Romanian film director Corneliu Porumboiu (in picture) has been invited to be part of the Cannes International Film Festival jury for the Cinefoundation and the short movie sections. The festival will take place between May 11 and 22.

The jury for these sections will also include French director Michel Gondry, French actress and director Julie Gayet, Austrian director and producer Jessica Hausner, as well as Portuguese director Joao Pedro Rodrigues. More about this jury here.

The jury will designate three winning movies out of the 16 selected for the Cinefoundation section, which includes movies created upon graduation. Awards for this section will be given on May 20. The same jury will choose the short movie which will get the Palme D'Or on May 22.

The official competition's jury will be led by Robert De Niro, who will be joined by Uma Thurman and Jude Law, director Olivier Assayas, Mahamat Saleh Haroun and Johnny To, Argentinian actressMartina Gusman, Chinese producer Nansun Shi and Norwegian writer and film critic Linn Ullmann. Corneliu Proumboiu, who studied Film Direction at the Theater and Film National University in Bucharest, took part in an internship program in Cannes in 2005. His movie 'A fost sau n-a fost' won the Camera d'Or for debut in 2006. Porumboiu's second feature - lenght movie 'Politist, adjectiv' received the film media FIPRESCI award in Cannes and the jury prize in 2009.
