The Romanian Central Bank (BNR) has paid over EUR 300 million in profit taxes last year, at a tax rate of 80 percent, and not the flat tax rate of 16 percent, according to Lucian Croitoru, counselor of the BNR governor. “For those who didn't know, BNR is paying its taxes on time. Last year taxes were of EUR 300 million and it will be the same this year,” according to Croitoru.

Former prime minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, member of the National Liberal Party (PNL), has recently voiced the idea to include BNR among payers of profit taxes, among other ideas of anti crisis measures.
