Romanian chief prosecutor detained for blackmail and taking bribes
The head of the Prosecution Office at the Bihor Court of Appeal in Romania was detained by the prosecutors from the Anticorruption Agency DNA. He is accused of blackmail, taking bribes, abuse of office and favoring the offender, reports local Digi24.
Investigators say they have evidence that the chief prosecutor was taking large amounts of money, as well as holidays abroad and dinners at luxury restaurants as bribes. In return, he was protecting a local businessman suspected of tax evasion.
He also compromised another investigation, during which he allegedly caused destruction of important evidence.
