25 September 2014

Romanian prosecutors of the Directorate for Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and policemen saved 30 children from human trafficking networks and arrested 13 suspects, as part of “Operation Archimedes”, the largest coordinated operation against organized crime in the EU, DIICOT announced.

Law enforcement authorities from 34 countries, coordinated and supported by Europol from its headquarters in The Hague, joined forces in Operation Archimedes, which targeted organized crime groups and their infrastructures across the European Union.

More than 1,000 suspects were arrested and large quantities of drugs were seized in this operation, which took place simultaneously across Europe between September 15 and 23.

Romanian law enforcement authorities participated on the line of human trafficking and managed to destabilize a series of trafficking networks. During the operation, they identified 37 victims of human trafficking of which 30 were minors, who most probably were going to be sent abroad to become beggars.
