Romanian Cluj-Napoca airport estimates 1.15 mln passengers this year

06 November 2014

The Avram Iancu international airport in Cluj-Napoca reached one million passengers, on Wednesday, November 5, and the airport’s management estimates that by the end of this year it will reach 1.15 million passengers, which is a new record.

“This is the best year in the airport’s history. The investments and the efforts made by the Cluj County Council and by the airport in recent year are paying off and this is the second year when the airport makes a profit. We have consolidated our position as Romania’s second largest airport,” said David Ciceo, the airport’s general manager, quoted by Agerpres.

The total number of employees working in the Avram Iancu airport, including subcontracting firms which have operations in the airport, is more than 1,000.

The airport recently extended its runway to 2,100 meters and will invest to further extend it to 3,500 meters, which would allow it to launch intercontinental flights.
