Romanian currency reaches historic low

22 June 2018

The Romanian currency Leu (RON) has continued to weaken and reached a historic low yesterday, June 21, when RON/EUR exchange rate reached the maximum rate of RON 4.6695/EUR.

It went up by 0.2% compared to the end of 2017, and by 1.5% compared to the same day in 2017. Despite having weakened lately, the Romanian currency is still more stable than the Polish Zloty, Hungarian Forint and the Czech Crown.

Some analysts quoted by Ziarul Financiar believe depreciation will continue, given the macroeconomic deterioration and the increase in budget and current account deficit.
