A new week started with a new low for the Romanian currency against the single European currency. The official Romanian Central Bank rate was of RON 4.6009 for EUR 1, above the rate last Friday, of RON 4.5848 for EUR 1.

The Romanian currency has taken a nosedive in the last three weeks, when it broke historic record after record, even though the Central Bank intervened on the market to limit its fall. Investor perception has been affected by the recent political battle, which echoed internationally.

The RON is down by 6.5 percent against the EUR compared to the rate at end 2011, which was of RON 4.3197 for EUR 1.

The RON/USD rate also went to a new record: RON 3.799 for USD 1, above the rate at end last week, of RON 3.7438 for an USD.
