Romanian Dacia sales stagnate as the European car market goes up

Romanian carmaker Dacia’s registrations in the European Union stagnated in January at some 30,200 units whereas the European market grew by 6.2%.

Dacia’s market share in the EU went down from 3% to 2.9%, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association - ACEA.

Italy recorded the highest growth in car sales, namely 17.4%, followed by Spain, with 12.1%. In France, the car sales grew by 3.9% in January whereas in Germany the car registrations went up by 3.3%.

The registrations under the Renault brand, the French group that owns Dacia, increased by 1.1% to some 65,800 units.

In Romania, Dacia’s sales went down in January as the car sales increased by 16%. The carmaker’s domestic market share was about 25%.
