Romanian Digi wins mobile telephony license in Hungary
Romanian telecom provider Digi will pay some EUR 32 million for a mobile telephony license in neighboring Hungary and will start providing such services in the country. Digi was one of the four winners of mobile telecommunication licenses in Hungary, in a bid which brought the Hungarian state some EUR 420 million.
Magyar Telekom, Telenor and Vodafone were also winners in this bid. The largest mobile spectrum blocks were awarded to these three companies. Digi thus marks its entry on Hungary’s mobile telephony market, via a license which is valid for 20 years. The Romanian company is already active in Hungary where it provides cable, internet and landline telephony services.
RCS & RDS, Digi’s parent company, is currently active in six European countries: its home base Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Italy and Serbia.
