Romanian director, screenwriter and actor Geo Saizescu (in picture) has died at 80 after suffering serious lung problems.

Saizescu, died on Monday evening (September 23) at the Marius Nasta pneumology institute in Bucharest.

Geo Saizescu, one of the most important Romanian directors, was born on November 14, 1932 in Mehedinti county.

The Romanian filmmaker directed some of the most important movies in the local film industry, such as Pacala, Asta Seara Dansam in Familie, Secretul lui Bachus and Grabeste-te Incet.

Two movies in which he also featured included Doi Vecini or Balul de Sambata Seara.

He also wrote the screenplay for Santaj, Pacala and Asta Seara Dansam in Familie.

During his long career, Geo Saizescu has worked with some of the most important Romanian actors, namely Gheorghe Dinica, Iurie Darie, Dem Radulescu, Jean Constantin, Florin Piersic, Ileana Stana Ionescu, Sebastian Papaiani, Emil Hossu, Stela Popescu, Maia Morgenstern, and others.

He also received many awards, including the Comedy Cluj International Film Festival excellence award.
