Romanian duo start trek to Everest peak

21 May 2014

The Everest Romania team, composed of Tiberiu Pintilie and Adrian Fako, have started their climb to the highest peak in the world this week, reports local Mediafax.

The two Romanians will be equipped with oxygen tanks during their climb and will be helped by Sherpa mountaineers. They will ascend together to the highest peak in the world while their colleagues Oana Harabagiu and Gabriel Motica will support them from the camp located at 6,400 meters.

Winter conditions are still plaguing the mountain, including winds over 100 km per hour, however the forecast shows that the night of May 23 might provide the necessary conditions to reach 8,848m summit.

During the acclimatization process, the two Romanian climbers have already passed the Chinese base camp located at 5,500 meters, the intermediary one at 5,700 meters, the advanced camp at 6,400 meters, and the camp located at 7,050 meters, reports Mediafax. The highest point reached by Romania’s team so far is at 7,400 meters.
