Romanian-Dutch duo advance to Australian Open quarterfinals
Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau and his doubles teammate Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer qualified to the men’s doubles quarterfinals at the Australian Open tournament in Melbourne. Tecau and Roger are the main favorites to winning this year's Australian Open.
The Romanian-Dutch team defeated Italians Marco Cecchinato and Andreas Seppi 7-6 (0), 6-3 after one hour and 26 minutes. In the quarterfinals, Tecau and Roger will play against French duo Adrian Mannarino/Lucas Pouille.
The other Romanian in the men's doubles competition, Florin Mergea, and his partner, Indian Rohan Bopanna, were eliminated in the third round of the competition.
In the women's competition, Romanian tennis player Simona Halep was eliminated in Australian Open’s first tour by Chinese Zhang Shuai.
