Romanian electricity carrier head dismissed after energy resources miscommunication
Romania's electricity carrier Transelectrica will limit or even cancel exports of electricity between February 15 and March 16, while limiting the quantities delivered to consumers in case of critical situations, due to the unfavorable weather conditions. The Southern and South – eastern regions of Romania are under a Code Orange for blizzard valid this week, after another week of heavy snow falls.
Transelectrica's announcement triggered the dismissal of the company's general manager Horia Hahaianu. PM Razvan Ungureanu asked the Economy Minister Lucian Bode to dismiss Hahaianu after issuing this statement. Romanian President Traian Basescu said earlier on Monday ( February 13) that interruptions in electricity supply are out of discussion, while mentioning the Government's potential decision on cutting electricity exports.
Transelectrica's announcement read that “due to the lack of resources – drought, low temperatures, drop of water levels – there aren't enough resources to cover the consumption need and the export. “ In a later announcement, the electricity career further said the system works at the needed capacity and that there is no risk of power outages. However, snow-bound villages in several counties in the country experienced power outages last week and some continue to live in the dark, due to the blizzard.
