Romanian electricity consumers can switch suppliers without paying bills
Romania is the only country in the EU where consumers can change their electricity suppliers even if they owe them money on overdue bills, according to the Association of Energy Utilities Companies (ACUE), quoted by Agerpres.
A client can even change electricity supplier 12 times a year without paying their bills, said Silvia Vlăsceanu, general manager of ACUE, during a conference yesterday.
This applies to large consumers, where the electricity market was deregulated, and was decided in October by the Energy Regulation Authority - ANRE.
The Competition Council however said suppliers can recover their dues by going to court against the bad payer.
