Romanian electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, which operates the country's nuclear power plant at Cernavoda, posted a net profit of over RON 131 million (EUR 29.5 million) in the first nine months of the year, up by 70% compared to the same period last year.

The company’s operating profit rose by 9% to over RON 459 million (EUR 103.5 million).

The operating income slightly dropped compared to the one recorded between January and September last year, although the total energy sold has not varied significantly. However, the energy sold on the regulated market, at a fixed price, went down by 40% year-on-year, whereas the quantity energy sold on the free market rose by 21%.

On the regulated market, the energy price increased by 7% year-on-year, but on the free market the prices decreased by 3%.

The amortization expense went up by 5% after several investments have been put in use in the second half of 2014 and this year.
