Romanian energy companies could get free carbon permits worth EUR 894 mln by 2019

Romania may give 75 million free carbon permits to seven energy producers between 2013 and 2019, according to Bloomberg.com. About half will be obtained by OMV and two state-owned power plants, namely Turceni and Rovinari.

Romania’s Economy Ministry will ask the European Union regulators for free permits before the September 30 deadline, and already started the public consultations on the proposal to give the permits valued at EUR 894 million.

Romania’s OMV Petrom will get 10.3 million free permits for its new Brazi gas-fired power plant from 2013 through 2019, while Turceni and Rovinari power plants will get 11.8 million and 11.6 million permits respectively.
