Romanian entrepreneurs defend foreign capital

13 February 2017

Romanian Business Leaders (RBL), an organization that brings together Romanian entrepreneurs, said that Romania needs foreign investments, multinationals, and criticized the recent political statements against foreign capital.

“Multinationals have the merit of professionalizing the business environment in Romania,” according to RBL.

Many of Romania’s entrepreneurs began their careers in multinationals, where they learned and developed skills that they later transferred to their own businesses and the companies with Romanian capital.

“Entrepreneurs or executives in companies with Romanian or foreign capital, all contribute to Romania's GDP, all employ Romanian citizens, all pay taxes in Romania and all believe that without moral integrity you can’t build anything healthy neither in society nor in the economy,” according to RBL.

The topic of multinationals and the foreign companies that “take out the profits from Romania and pay Romanians with low salaries” were often mentioned in the parliamentary elections campaign by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), which now hold the majority in the Parliament and form the governing coalition. The topic came up again during the protests, as several members of the governing coalition, including PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, said that the protests were organized with the help of multinationals.
