Romanian entrepreneurs make affordable 3D printer for home use

27 January 2016

Three young entrepreneurs from Cluj-Napoca, central Romania, have made a cheap 3D printer for home use. They’ve called it Gandacul (The Bug), mainly because of its small size.

The device costs RON 1,500 (some EUR 330) and is one of the first 3D printers entirely made in Romania as its components are also made in the country.

The printer’s production costs amount to some RON 1,000 (EUR 220). The three young Romanians create the elements themselves using other devices and 3D printers.

“When the user comes to us, we offer him the printer and some advice about design and use,” said Vlad Radoescu, one of the entrepreneurs, cited by local Digi24.

The Romanians would like their printer to also be available in schools so that the students can have access to the technology. They are also willing to organize free IT and innovation classes for children.

The first Romanian 3D printer was created in Timisoara and is now sold throughout Europe, but also in the US and Canada.
