Romanian farmers could cash EUR 2 bln more for their crops this year
Grain prices remain at very high levels on foreign markets compared to the historical averages, and if the Romanian crops are comparable to last year's ones, the farmers' revenues could be almost EUR 2 bln higher this year, according to Claudiu Cazacu, Strategic Consulting at XTB Romania, quoted by Ziarul Financiar daily.
"In Romania, the preliminary signs for the harvest are relatively good, especially with recent developments, and a volume close to that of the previous year is expected. At current prices, this would be very satisfactory for farmers. Sunflower production is set to increase, given the farmers sown more areas in order to grasp the rising prices," he commented.
In Europe, the price of the wheat to be delivered in September reached EUR 431.75 per tonne on the French stock exchange on 17 May, a new record and just under the historical peak.
For the last five years, on average, the price at this time of the year was EUR 185.5 per tonne.
